Whether aiming for a smooth, polished look or a textured, non-slip surface, understanding the various finishing techniques will help you achieve your desired outcome for your new concrete.
01.
Float and Troweled Finish
Trowel finish can also be used to fix damaged surfaces such as walls and floors. The name of this finish comes from the tool used, which is the trowel. It has a flat, rectangular blade, that is mostly made out of steel or other sturdy materials.
02.
Broom Finish
Broom finished concrete is popular for patios, driveways and more. Sometimes called brushed concrete, a broom is used to create a slip-resistant texture on the surface of the concrete.
03.
Polished Concrete
The Concrete Polishing Council classifies finished gloss levels in ranges from 1 through 4 and aggregate exposures as A, B, C or D, depending on the degree of exposure. A typically switch to finer diamond abrasives bonded in a plastic or resinous matrix is used to achieve higher degrees of shine.
04.
Colored Finish
Colored concrete can be used in combination with other decorative finishes such as stamping, exposed aggregate, broom finish, and more. A color samples provide a good indication of concrete’s final appearance, they don’t account for all variables that can influence the outcome.
05.
Exposed Aggregate Finish
Exposed aggregate concrete is a decorative finish that you achieve by removing the top layer of cement paste to reveal the underlying aggregate. This process highlights the natural textures and colors of stones like granite, quartz, or limestone, creating a visually appealing surface.
06.
Stamped Concrete
Stamped concrete has taken the world of decorative surfaces by storm, offering an affordable and versatile alternative to traditional paving materials. As someone who’s always on the lookout for innovative home improvement options, I find stamped concrete fascinating.
07.
Swirl Finish
Swirl finish is one of the most exceptional types of concrete finishes, characterized by its unique circular pattern that creates an aesthetically pleasing surface. This finish is achieved by smearing the concrete in uniformly overlapping circular motions.
08.
Salt Finish
Salt finish concrete is a form of concrete surface finishing work where salt crystals are embedded into the surface of the freshly placed concrete using a roller or afloat. After the concrete sets, the salt crystals are washed out it leaves behind numerous shallow indents.
